About Me

Me –

I am 43 year old former scientist in the field of biotechnology. I had 12 years of clinical laboratory experience in three different areas (microbiology, forensic DNA, and medical genetics). I substitute taught preschool through twelfth grade last year.

I now stay at home with my three wonderful, bright and active girls.  It’s my goal now to bring my love of learning and science in particular to my children before my littlest is in kindergarten (when I hope to go back to work).

The supporting cast –

JB – the last love of my life, my husband and my friend. You put up with such weirdness.

M – the daughter that made me a mother. 11 years old and full of wonder.

K – the daughter that made me look deeper than the surface.  9 years old and full of spirit.

E – the daughter that made me remember it’s fun to be a child.  8 years old and full of giggles.

  2. Hi! I love you site, and I was looking for a way contact you, but I can’t find an email address anywhere. I would love for MontessoriBuddy.com to be added to your blog roll under Montessori. It’s a new company and I’m trying to spread the word. If you have any questions, just send me an email. Thanks : )

We love your blog. We wanted to tell you about our book NOAH’S GARDEN, the first picture book that talks to preschoolers about global warming in a positive, empowering way.

NOAH’S GARDEN was just featured on WGN Superstation’s national news. Here is a link to the news story:

    http://www.wgntv.com/videogallery/64498354/News/Science-experiment-inspires-community

When five year old Noah hears about how global warming threatens penguins, he comes up with his own unique idea to solve the problem: he plants ice cubes in his yard. Soon his whole town gets caught up in Noah’s unique way of helping the planet.

NOAH’S GARDEN (450 words) is an empowering, optimistic story about children using their creativity and imagination to solve big, overpowering problems. Preschoolers have many questions about global warming, which is often presented in a way that frightens them. No picture book has yet captured the imaginations of this age group, or presented the issue as one that imagination and heart can conquer.

NOAH’S GARDEN is a true story, that was the talk of Lake Forest, Illinois last year.

We hope you’ll find it relevant and helpful to your readers, and mention it in your blog.

The book is available at Amazon.com at:

    Thank you,

That sounds like a lot of fun Joyce.

Thanks. I’ll be checking out your website.

I should scan in the photos of my daughters having a dress-up tea party with their grandmother. It’s becoming a great tradition with them.

  6. I love desire to keep the adventurous spirit growing in kids and yourself. I am a retired preschool teacher and my classroom was always about adventure in some form or another. I have recently begun to write the stories down that I used during that time and have just published the first. I would love to have you read and review it. It is an adventure which explores the outside with imagination and cognition. Kids learn descriptive language, sensory exploration and sequential thinking while riding a rainbow. Here is the link. I would love to know what you think.

    Thanks for your time !
    Cheers, Crickett Heassler

I read the synopsis and the reviews, which seemed positive.

I’m sorry, I don’t have a kindle reader anymore. I gave mine away.
